Dressing
DO NOT remove the dressing unless instructed by Mr Frank Bruscino-Raiola. Keep the dressing dry and intact until you visit Frank on your post operative appointment.
If surgery has been to the face or head, it may be comfortable to sleep on several pillows.
Note: Your wound & dressing may become itchy. This is the normal healing process. Avoid taking your dressing off as this will only hinder the healing process.
If the bleeding is substantial or the dressing comes off please contact us.
The dressing may have a Plaster of Paris back slab. Check your fingers for warmth and colour over the next 24 hours. The bandage should be firm but not tight. Elevate limb for comfort and to reduce swelling.
Wound
Do not smoke as smoking delays healing and increases the risk of complications.
A prescription for antibiotics may be provided; please take the full course as directed.
If you have had surgery to your face you may experience bruising and swelling around eye and cheek areas.
Activity/Exercise
It is important that you rest after an operation.
DO NOT do any strenuous work or sport that would interfere with your operation site as this may cause stretching or strain on the wound.
If you have had surgery to your arm or hand you may be unable to drive for sometime depending on the severity of the injury.
Patient Information
Take Panadol or Panadeine or prescribed medication for pain as directed on the packet.
DO NOT take aspirin or Nurofen after surgery unless you have been advised by Frank.
Normally Frank DOES NOT stop these medications and if so you would have been instructed before the surgery.
Do not hesitate to contact us if:
- If the bleeding is substantial or the dressing is soaked;
- Pain is unrelieved by Panadol or Panadeine or prescribed medication;
- There is excessive swelling or redness;
- if the extremities are extremely cold or discoloured;
- Your wound is offensive to smell or discharging;
- You have a fever.
